Anne Hathaway has been cast as Selina Kyle, who has a double identity as Catwoman, in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises. She’ll be starring alongside Christian Bale, who returns in the title role of Bruce Wayne/Batman. Nolan stated, “I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work with Anne Hathaway, who will be a fantastic addition to our ensemble as we complete our story.” Nolan also confirmed that his Inception star Tom Hardy will play the role of Bane, an escaped prisoner who becomes abnormally strong after being pumped full of drugs. Nolan said, “I am delighted to be working with Tom again and excited to watch him bring to life our new interpretation of one of Batman’s most formidable enemies.” The Dark Knight Rises is slated for release on July 20, 2012.

Not Catwoman again. Nolan can make this vilain more interesting then Batman returns hopefully because she was the worst vilain in the series next to poison ivy.

So batman’s going to redeem himself to the people of Gotham by trouncing a demure girl and a dude with roid rage?

hmm…how do you think Anne will compare to previous Catwomen (Halle and Michelle?)

I like how they use really good actors for this series. Christian Bale’s phenomenal, and Anne is currently one of the best actresses in Hollywood. Not to mention Michael Caine. I’m looking forward to this one.

they should have cast Noomi Rapace- that would have been one kick ass catwoman

According to Germain, Catwoman is a villan?? It sure sounds like it. I don’t go to the Batman movies anymore. The last movie I saw they dressed Catwoman So Ridulous!! Nothing to much like the original ones! I Really Dont like the name of the last 2 Dark Knight movie & Dark Knight Rising???!! Since When is he a dark knight; a knight stands for light, goodness and rite, Not for darkness! I(nor can my roommate-friend) just Cannot consienceously pay for that nor support it. Its gone too far over the line from the original. Just becoz some time has gone by, doen’t mean its right to change it more to the side of absurdity. I’m only saying parts of it is like that, not most of it.

Anne Hathaway, awesome choice. I love her and I won several of her movies. This will be a complete change for her and put her on the map as far as stardom goes. Look what happened to Lee Meriweather, Eartha Kitt, Michelle Pfeifer, Julie Newmar, Halle Berry and now Anne Hathaway. Definitely a movie I will add to my Movie Library along with already owned Batman movies. I can hardly wait for the DVD.

    @ Rita
The Dark Knight is Batman’s nickname of sorts, found in the actual comic books. That’s where the name comes from, if you didn’t know.

And yes, a knight stands for goodness and right. However, Batman is a DARK knight, implying that he still stands for justice and goodness, but by sacrificing some of his own values and morale, and sacrificing his image at times to do what is needed for the greater good of the society. (I’d like to add, that the knights in our history were not all “shiny and good” either.)

I can’t wait I love her acting it is unreal, awesome news, that’s a girl Anne Hathaway,

with all the stars that played catwoman, I am sure going to make the time to see this.

    Awesome choice there.

Casting Anne Hathaway as the troubled Selina Kyle is easy for Dark Knight Rises, but having Tom Hardy as Bane is difficult if the story is weak similar to the film from the 90s where Bane was portrayed as a mindless henchman. Bane is the one character who is capable of matching Batman’s intellect as well as strength

… I think this movie might have just died to me.

I’m a HUGE fan of Batman Begins and TDK, because they follow a similar motif to that of Frank Miller’s interpretation of the Batman canon. To many of us, Batman is supposed to be dark and gritty — reusing or reinventing lame characters like Catwoman is just nonsense.

However, the character of Bane has hope (keep in mind that Bane in true Batman canon has absolutely NOTHING to do with Poison Ivy, is in actuality a career convict who does nothing but bodybuild and carry around a teddy bear with a hole in that back that stashes a knife which he uses to stab anyone who starts anything with him — then discovers a super steroid called Venom which jacks him up even more) if Nolan decides to follow something along the lines of Knightfall, where Bane actually breaks the spirit (and back, no less) of the Bat.

Bane will be great. DC have evolved Bane since his first appearnce in The DC Universe. Bane is now a mainstay on the Secret Six and is no longer a roid rage individual, but a stratiegest and awesome hand to hand fighter.

What the heck?!! THIS is the best actress they could find to play Catwoman??!

Sorry, but Anne Hathaway just DOES NOT have the looks and the sex appeal to pull Catwoman off. And no, this is not something make-up, costumes or “good acting” can remedy.

YOU ARE NO CATWOMAN, ANNE. Nolan, what have you been smoking?

  15. Zac • January 21, 2011 @ 5:13 PM

Anyone with anything against Catwoman, please don’t think of Batman Returns. It was a horrible interpretation of the Batman universe. Catwoman is a huge part of Batman’s life in the novels and comics, so to me its a solid choice. Now she might not be the main villain either. May have more of a role where she has taken the vigilante throne due to Batman’s absence. Nolan is a talented story teller and both these characters are gonna fit right into place. As for Bane, if he is anything like he is in the newer comics, my god this is gonna be a sick movie to watch. He literally broke Batman’s back and Dick Grayson took over as Batman. Cant wait for this.

What???? No votes for Angelina Jolie to play Catwoman?
Not too long ago, everyone was saying she’d be the perfect one to cast in that role. I thought she was going for it and would be awesome. What happened?? I’m very disappointed.

Thank you eyenstine! I was going to really put 2 cents of knowledge into Rita lol.

And I really thought the first re-boot of Batman (Returns) was a tad silly, but it seemed to work. The Dark Knight, I thought would suck because really, how could the Joker in a more reality based story work, but wow, I was blown away. So this 3rd movie with Nolan and his brother likely writing and of course, directing, he will make it work. And with any actor.I don’t know much about Tom Hardy so I quickly googled him and there is a picture of him totally jacked. He could play Bain for sure. And I liked him in Inception but his role was too limited so this should be interesting.

I have never been a good Catwoman fan, but Michelle Pheiffer made it work as well as possible for Tim Burtons vision, so really, I think I will see this movie with an open mind.

anne hathaway? somehow i dont see her as catwoman. i could think of plenty of women who would have made a better catwoman. besides, seems kinda funny that catwoman will be played by a vegetarian.
