Michael Trigg, who donated $100,000 to website Charitybuzz (the money was destined to go to La Jolla Playhouse) in exchange for a small speaking role of “a few lines” in the film Scary Movie 5 and a one-on-one meeting with Harvey Weinstein, has filed a lawsuit against the Weinstein Company this week in Los Angeles County Superior Court for breach of contract and negligent misrepresentation. Michael’s dialogue ended up being only one word. After contacting the company about the line, he was told not only that he was not entitled to dialogue but that there was no guarantee he would be in the final cut. Charitybuzz agreed to a $40,000 refund if his scenes were cut and Michael was offered a larger role in a different movie called Demonic – but found out he would only have two words of dialogue when he arrived on set.
Michael is seeking unspecified damages from the Weinstein Company because he paid for his flight and accommodations for the film shoot out of his own pocket, only to be told the filming schedule had changed, forcing him to cancel the trip “at significant cost to himself.” Michael claims he never received reimbursement for the canceled trip, even though he was promised it. Michael is also suing Charitybuzz and La Jolla Playhouse. ~ Andrea Hodgins
