Best Actress – Taraji P. Henson (Hidden Figures)

The actresses in the inspiring and important film Hidden Figures are what make it so powerful. Octavia Spencer rightly earned a nomination in the Best Supporting Actress category, but her co-stars Taraji P. Henson and Janelle Monáe were ignored. Out of the two, it's Taraji we're most upset about. All the proof we need in deciding that she deserved a nod for her performance comes when comparing Katherine Johnson, her character in the film, to her beloved Cookie Lyon in the popular series Empire. They're entirely different human beings, and the fact that Taraji so easily transforms for her parts makes her one of our favorite actresses working today.
