MARCUS NISPEL
Date of Birth: April 15, 1963
German-born Marcus Nispel came to America on a Fulbright scholarship in 1984 at the age of 20, after starting his career in advertising as an art director for Young & Rubicam in Frankfurt, Germany. He began directing in 1989 and since then has directed over 1000 music videos and commercials. His resumé includes over 15 #1 songs and videos for artists such as Simply Red, No Doubt, George Michael, Janet Jackson, Elton John, Billy Joel, Cher, Mariah Carey, LL Cool J and Bryan Adams. Commercial clients include Audi, Canon, Coca-Cola, Dr. Pepper, Kodak, Levi's, L'Oreal, Mercedes, Motorola, Nike, Panasonic, Pepsi, RCA, Sprint and Sprite.
He has won numerous awards for his commercial and video work including Clio awards, the Moebius Award, the Grand Prix at the BDA Awards, four MTV Music Video Awards, two Billboard awards and Music Video Filmmaker Association Awards as well as the MVPA Lifetime Achievement Award in 2001.
Nispel founded and operated his own production company, Portfolio Artists Network, before merging with RSA-USA, and then joining MJZ in 2000. He was the subject of two documentaries as well as being included in Time Magazine's "Best of 1996" issue. He has also has been featured in major publications such as Vogue, Vanity Fair, Details, The New York Times and The LA Times.
Nispel turned to feature film directing with re-makes of cult classic films such as The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003) and Friday the 13th (2009).
