STEVEN BRILL
Date of Birth: May 27, 1962
A native of Utica, New York, Steven Brill studied film, theater and acting at Boston University's Film School. After graduating, he moved to Los Angeles to become an actor and write screenplays. His first jobs were writing and story-editing for episodic television.
A fortuitous visit to watch a Pee Wee hockey practice led Brill to the idea for a film called The Mighty Ducks (1992), an idea he sold to Walt Disney Pictures. The film, which was a surprise box office smash, was quickly followed up with two sequels which Brill wrote.
He made his motion picture directorial debut with Disney's Heavyweights (1995), a comedy about a group of people at a summer weight-loss camp, starring Ben Stiller. In 1997 he did the re-write on the script for Dr. Doolittle, starring Eddie Murphy. Brill has written a number of feature film scripts, including the comedy Ready To Rumble (2000).
In 1999, he wrote and directed Late Last Night, a television movie which starred Emilio Estevez, and debuted at the AFI Los Angeles International Film Festival. Brill followed up with Little Nicky (2000), a comedy starring Adam Sandler as the bumbling son of Satan.
In addition to his writing and directing talents, Brill has a long list of acting credits including Sex, lies and videotape, Postcards From the Edge, Edward Scissorhands (1990), Batman Returns (1992), The (1985) Wedding Singer and Big Daddy (1999).
