When Lisa See wrote Snow Flower and the Secret Fan, she never imagined that book clubs across North America would be clamoring to make her book their number one choice. It was only a matter of time that the best-selling novel would become a movie, directed by Wayne Wang. Set in 19th century China, the story centers on the lifelong friendship between two girls who develop their own secret code as a way to contend with the rigid cultural norms imposed on women.

Tribute spoke with Lisa and producer Florence Sloan about bringing the book to the big screen.
