New movies in theaters – Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes

Kingdom of the Planet of the ApesThere are several new movies opening this weekend but the biggest one, releasing all across Canada, is Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes. We had an opportunity to chat with two of the stars of the film, Owen Teague and Kevin Durand (watch the interview below). Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes – When a new tyrannical ape leader (Kevin Durand) kidnaps ape clans to build his empire, Noa (Owen Teague), a young ape from the Eagle Clan, undertakes a harrowing journey that will cause him to question all that he has known about the past and to make choices that will define a future for apes and humans alike. Owen Teague, who plays the ape Noa, and Kevin Durand, who plays Proximus Caesar, tell what they learned during their six weeks of ape training for Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes. They also reveal how much of the movie was set in the real outdoors and how much of it was on sets or on blue screen, as well as what Andy Serkis (who played Caesar in the previous films in the franchise) taught them.

Not Another Church Movie – Taylor Pherry is given a mission from God Himself: to tell his family’s stories and inspire his community. What he doesn’t know is that the Devil has plans of his own. Playing in select cities. Click here for showtimes.

We Grown Now – In 1992 best friends Malik and Eric traverse the city of Chicago, looking to escape the mundaneness of school and the hardships of growing up in public housing. The Metropolitan Opera: Madama Butterfly – Extraordinary soprano Asmik Grigorian tackles the demanding role of Cio-Cio-San, the loyal geisha at the heart of Puccini’s devastating tragedy. Tenor Jonathan Tetelman stars as the callous American naval officer Pinkerton, whose betrayal destroys her. Playing in select theaters on Saturday, May 11 with an encore performance on June 8, 2024.
