One Direction takes the lead at the box office

Two very different films fought for the number one spot over the course of the weekend. British boy band’s concert film One Direction: This Is Us won by a small lead, bringing in $15.8 million with a high Tribute rating of 4.5 stars. Hot on its heels was Lee Daniels’ The Butler with $14.88 million and a Tribute rating of 3.7 stars in its third week at the box office. Raunchy comedy We’re the Millers held on to the third spot at the box office, earning $12.68 million and a Tribute rating of 3.8 stars. Surprisingly, foreign film Instructions Not Included earned an impressive $7.8 million, taking the fourth spot at the box office. Disney’s Planes rounded out the top five at the box office in its fourth week, bringing in $7.72 million with a Tribute rating of 4.4 stars. Included in the top 10 were Elysium, The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, The World’s End, Getaway and Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters.
