Date of Birth: June 16, 1978

Daniel Brühl was born in Arenys de Munt, Catalonia to a mother who is a Catalan teacher and a father who is a German TV director. He grew up with his brother and sister in Cologne, Germany, where his family moved shortly after his birth. Bruhl was brought up in a multilingual home and can speak Spanish, German, Catalan, French and English fluently, with a solid basis of Japanese as well.

Daniel began acting at a young age, entering the industry in 1995 with a role as a street kid on the German television soap opera Verbotene Liebe (Forbidden Love). He first received international attention in 2003, when he landed the breakthrough role of Alex Kerner in the Golden-Globe nominated film Good Bye Lenin!. The role won him the European Film Academy award that same year. His English-speaking film debut came in 2004 when he starred alongside British acting legends Judi Dench and Maggie Smith in Ladies in Lavender . Another trophy was added to his shelf when he won the People’s Choice trophy for Best Actor for the film Love in Thoughts (2004).

Daniel was first introduced to mainstream U.S. audience as German war hero Frederik Zoller in Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds (2009) and from that point on, he was soon cast in other Hollywood films, including Intruders (2011) starring Clive Owen and Rush (2013), in which he plays Chris Hemsworth’s rival. More recently, he starred in Woman in Gold (2015) and opposite Emma Watson in The Colony (2016). Also in 2016, he joined the Captain America series of movies in Captain America: Civil War (2016), playing the role of Zemo.

Daniel starred with Jessica Chastain in the drama The Zookeeper's Wife (2017) and in 7 Days In Entebbe (2018) with Rosamunde Pike. He also stars in the Netflix series The Alienist (2018) alongside Luke Evans and Dakota Fanning.

Daniel lives in Berlin.
