Leslie Mann biography

How to Be Single

Leslie Mann

Date of Birth: March 26, 1972

With her baby voice and huge blue eyes, this San Francisco classical beauty credits much of her success to her three therapists, a psychic, and Susan Jeffers' popular self-help book Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway. She started her career as a television regular in the series Birdland, following a small role in the feature film Virgin High (1991).

By the mid-'90s, she beat out 500 other aspiring actresses two years later for the role of Matthew Broderick's girlfriend in The Cable Guy . Though her talent won the part, her looks caught the eye of the film's producer Judd Apatow, who said as she left the room, "There goes the future Mrs. Apatow." The two began dating and eventually married.

Apatow is a good friend of Adam Sandler and in his single days, the two roomed together. Though Apatow, Leslie became good friends with Sandler, who cast her as his best friend's bitchy fiancée in his 1999 hit comedy, Big Daddy.

Leslie continued to focus her attention on comedy films with prominent roles in Orange County and Stealing Harvard (both 2002). She's played roles in more comedies, such as The 40-Year-Old Virgin (2005), Knocked Up (2007), Funny People (2009) and The Change-Up (2011). She also voiced the character Sandra Babock in the animated feature ParaNorman (2012) and lent her voice to the animated films Mr. Peabody & Sherman (2014) and Rio 2 (2014).

Leslie continues to work regularly in projects such as Nick Cassavetes' revenge-seeking romantic comedy, The Other Woman (2014), before co-starring alongside Dakota Johnson and Rebel Wilson in How to Be Single (2016). The same year, she shared the spotlight with Robert De Niro in the comedy The Comedian (2016).

Later film credits include the comedy Blockers (2018) with John Cena, the biopic Welcome to Marwen (2018) with Steve Carell and Edward Norton's crime drama Motherless Brooklyn (2019).

When she's not on set, Leslie spends most of her time raising her two daughters with Judd: Maude and Iris Apatow.
