The 32nd edition of the Toronto International Film Festival opens tomorrow night at 8:00 at Roy Thomson Hall with the Gala Presentation of Fugitive Pieces, a Canada/Greece co-production directed by Jeremy Podeswa and based on the novel by Anne Michaels. Starring Stephen Dillane and Rosamunde Pike (both of whom will be in attendance), the story revolves around an archaeologist discovering a seven-year-old Polish boy hiding after witnessing the massacre of his family in Nazi-occupied Poland. The man takes the boy to Greece, then to Toronto as the boy grows into a man and tries to live with the memories of his family's tragedy. The film opens in Canada on October 26, but US distributors are waiting to see how it does at TIFF before making a commitment.
