Jane Fonda's boycott of TIFF ludicrous

jane_fondaJane Fonda and Danny Glover are joining the boycott of the Toronto International Film Festival started by Canadian director John Greyson. The reason? TIFF is honoring Tel Aviv's 100th anniversary with a program called City to City. The program spotlights 10 Israeli films, but activists are signing their name to a letter saying they don't wabt Tel Aviv honored because some Palestinians were uprooted when Israel was established as a state. Oscar-winning documentarian Rabbi Marvin Hier calls the protest "an attack on the heart and soul of Israel." Fonda's boycott seems especially ludicrous -- she doesn't even have a movie playing at TIFF -- her last movie was the critically-panned 2007 Georgia Rule. Actors generally show up at film festivals when they have a film to promote, so it's unlikely she ever even planned to attend. At least Glover actually has a film screening at TIFF.
