Kiefer Sutherland's surprise TIFF announcement

kiefer sutherlandAt Norman Jewison's annual TIFF barbecue for his Canadian Film Centre, Kiefer Sutherland, star of the hit television series 24, made a surprise announcement: he's been named the first chair of the Canadian Film Centre's Actors Conservatory. The new school for actors is presented by Canwest and supported by the Brian Linehan Charitable Foundation, which provided $1 million in funding. Sutherland said: “I am honored to contribute to Norman Jewison’s legacy by offering the CFC my passion for storytelling, for Canada and its talent. The Actors Conservatory will have significant influence on the professional and creative lives of the actors attending and on our industry.” Christine Shipton, senior vice-president of drama and factual programming at Canwest, was thrilled to have Sutherland on board for the new program, saying, "With Kiefer Sutherland's commitment, the conservatory will not only generate renewed enthusiasm for Canadian actors but will help take our Canadian programming efforts to the next level."
