The ribbon has been cut, and TIFF’s new home – the Bell Lightbox at the corner of King and John - officially opened its doors on Sunday with a fantastic block party.
Following the countdown and ribbon cutting by TIFF director and CEO Piers Handling and other dignitaries, industry people and filmfans were treated to an afternoon of celebration, complete with performances from 100 Monkeys, Fefe Dobson and special guest K’naan, as well as tours of the new building.
Inside the new five-story TIFF Lightbox, visitors were buzzing and the lineup for the Essential Cinema exhibition - featuring iconic objects and photographs from the history of cinema – was long.
Those who toured the new home of TIFF also had the opportunity to view a selection of screenings, including TIFF@35, directed and produced by Barry Avrich, featuring the history of Festival trailers, red carpet footage and images from the past 35 years.
Later today, Bruce McDonald’s film Trigger is set to be the first screening at the TIFF Bell Lightbox.
