Hundreds of people were waiting for Clint Eastwood’s return to TIFF for the Hereafter premiere at the Elgin Theatre last night, and the Hollywood legend didn’t disappoint.
Marking his first appearance at the festival since 1990, when he attended for White Hunter Black Heart, Hereafter director Eastwood looked “dashing” and “dignified” according to fans, and was joined by the movie’s stars, Matt Damon and Bryce Dallas Howard. Critic Roger Ebert and boxer Lennox Lewis were also spotted.
The supernatural thriller tells the parallel stories of three people affected by death in different ways, following an American factory worker who is able to communicate with the dead, a French television journalist who survives a tsunami and and an English boy whose brother is killed in a car accident.
On Twitter, moviegoers noted that while the film had a sensitive theme, it had “an amazing cast” was refreshing, different and gets you thinking.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, as with films such as Letters From Iwo Jima and Million Dollar Baby, this Eastwood film “shakes up the whole notion of what studio movies can be.”
The film is set for theatrical release next month.
