TIFF fans go wild for Hollywood's leading ladies

The lineup of A-list actresses gracing the red carpets of TIFF on Monday evening was stellar, finishing up with a fan frenzy as Natalie Portman arrived for the North American premiere of Black Swan.

Natalie PortmanThe buzz surrounding the ballet thriller’s premiere on Monday night was obvious as Portman greeted hundreds of fans and signed autographs on her way into the screening at Roy Thomson Hall, while the rush line for the film stretched around the block.

Joining Portman on the red carpet were Winona Ryder, Barbara Hershey, Vincent Cassel and director Darren Aronofsky, while Rachel Weisz was also reportedly spotted.

Earlier in the evening, the crowd at TIFF’s premiere venue was buzzing as Catherine Deneuve greeted fans on the red carpet before Monday evening’s North American premiere of her new film Potiche.

The film, which co-stars Gerard Depardieu, focuses on a bourgeois housewife (played by Deneuve) who takes on a rough union leader, sparking a comic war between the sexes and the classes.

In other sightings of some of Hollywood’s most renowned actresses in the city on Monday evening, Freida Pinto arrived at Ryerson for the screening of Miral, Helen Mirren was spotted at the Elgin Theatre for the world premiere of Brighton Rock, Nicole Kidman was at the Visa Screening Room for the world premiere of Rabbit Hole and Uma Thurman walked the red carpet at the Isabel Bader Theatre before the premiere of Ceremony.

    Black Swan looks pretty darn cool. I like that it's leaning closer to Aronofsky's crazy side. I always thought The Fountain was underrated. Too bad all anybody cares about is Natalie Portman kissing Mila Kunis.
