Film sales strong during TIFF 2010, say organizers

Toronto International Film Festival organizers are calling 2010 a strong sales year for TIFF films, with more than 20 movies sold into various global territories during the festival, and more sales announcements expected in the coming days.

Barney's VersionTo date, U.S. sales are confirmed for: Barney’s Version, Casino Jack, Cave of Forgotten Dreams, The Conspirator, Dirty Girl, Incendies, I Saw The Devil, Outside the Law, Potiche, Sarah’s Key, Super and Submarine, TIFF said on Friday. Several TIFF films have also been sold into Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia and New Zealand.

Yesterday, it was also reported that Lionsgate nabbed North American distribution rights to the Nicole Kidman film Rabbit Hole, and plans to release the film before the end of the year in time for the 2011 awards season.

And, The Hollywood Reporter said on Friday that Mongrel Media has acquired the Canadian rights to Ingrid Veninger's film Modra.

TIFF organizers say more than 3,400 industry delegates attended the festival this year.

“We are very pleased to see Toronto playing a role in the turnaround in the sales climate,” said Cameron Bailey, co-director of the Toronto International Film Festival.

“As a result, audiences in North America and around the world will see some of the outstanding films that premiered here,” he added.
