Focus Features picks up Ryan Gosling's latest

One of the most hotly-buzzed-about films at the festival, The Place Beyond the Pines, has found a domestic buyer: following its Friday night world premiere at the Princess of Wales theater, the film has been picked up by Focus Features for distribution in the United States. Derek Cianfrance's eagerly-awaited follow-up to his Oscar-nominated breakout Blue Valentine, The Place Beyond the Pines stars Ryan Gosling as a nomadic motorbike stunt performer who rekindles his relationship with an old flame when he discover she has been raising a son he never knew they had together. The film also stars Bradley Cooper and Eva Mendes. Focus has set the film's release for 2013.

"Derek Cianfrance has made a bold, epic, and emotionally generous saga," stated Focus executives James Schamus and Andrew Karpen in a statement, "once again showing a master's hand in eliciting searingly beautiful performances from the actors with whom he collaborates."

The Place Beyond the Pines has already completed its run at the Toronto International Film Festival. Fans who didn't get a chance to see it will have to wait until Focus puts it into theaters next year. ~Devin Garabedian
