We were thrilled to welcome back Rossif Sutherland to our Media Lounge on Day 6 of TIFF, this time to talk about his new thriller, River, in which he plays an American doctor who witnesses a crime in Laos.
He was joined by his director, Jamie M. Dagg, who is making his feature film debut with this film. They chatted about how they were able to shoot the film in 33 days and mentioned that Rossif's father, Donald Sutherland, was worried about Rossif shooting this film in Laos, and his other film, Hyena Road, in Jordan, because of the potentially dangerous situations.
Although the films is a drama, Rossif and Jamie had a great time joking around and teasing interviewer Marriska Fernandes.
Garret Dillahunt and first time actor Chad McKinney discussed their movie Beast, about a boxer in the slums of Manila.
Also dropping by to be interviewed about their movies were screenwriters Nick Reiner and Matt Elisofon, who co-wrote Being Charlie, which was directed by Nick's father, Rob Reiner.
Brazilian director Pedro Morelli told us about his new movie Zoom, which is being shown tonight on an IMAX screen for its TIFF debut, which he was excited about.
Director Julio Medem, who directed Ma Ma, talked about working with star Penélope Cruz and Oscar-nominated composer Alberto Iglesias.
Co-directors Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck co-wrote the screenplay for the drama Mississippi Grind, which stars Ryan Reynolds and Sienna Miller.
Dutch writer/director David Verbeek and his leading actor, Gregoire Colin, talked about their drama Full Contact, about a man who accidentally drops a bomb on a school from a remotely-operated drone.
Director Robin Pront and his stars, Kevin Janssens and Jeroen Perceval, were happy to discuss their new movie The Ardennes, a drama about a home-jacking that goes terribly wrong.
Director Guillaume Senez spoke with Nicole Stamp about his new drama, Keeper, while filmmaker Eric Khoo chatted about his new film, In the Room.
And last but not least, Naomi Klein and Avi Lewis talked to Revolution director Rob Stewart about their new environmental documentary, This Changes Everything.
As you can see from the photos, the celebs had a lot of fun joking around and posing for our cameras! ~Alexandra Heilbron
