The stars just keep on coming, and with them, the red carpets just keep on getting juicier. Tonight (September 12) looks to be another jam-packed, star-studded evening with more than a few Oscar winners and nominees descending upon Toronto's prestigious film festival.
The highly anticipated musical La La Land (high)kicks everything into gear at the Princess of Wales Theatre at 6:15 p.m. The period dramedy, which features an all-star lead duo made up of Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone, follows a jazz pianist who falls in love with an aspiring actress in 1950s Los Angeles. Both Ryan and Emma, along with director Damien Chazelle, and co-stars John Legend, J.K. Simmons, Rosemarie DeWitt, Callie Hernandez, Sonoya Mizuno, and Jessica Rothe, are expected to dazzle the red carpet at 5:15 p.m.
Take your pick, because also at 5:15 p.m., Richard Gere will be at Roy Thomson Hall's red carpet to promote his drama Norman: The Moderate Rise and Tragic Fall of a New York Fixer. The veteran actor will be joined by his co-star Lior Ashkenazi, as well as the film's director Joseph Cedar and producer Oren Moverman. The ensemble drama, which will screen at 6:30 p.m., also stars Michael Sheen, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Steve Buscemi, and Hank Azaria, and follows a small-time operator whose life dramatically changes after he forms an unlikely friendship with a young politician.
Go grab a snack or a drink (or two), and then head on back to Roy Thomson Hall for 8:15 p.m. to catch a glimpse of Oscar nominees Amy Adams and Jeremy Renner mingling with fans and media for their sci-fi drama Arrival. Amy and Jeremy star as a linguistic specialist and a theoretical physicist who are recruited by the military to decipher alien communications after a series of spacecrafts land on Earth. Mark O’Brien, Abigail Pniowsky and Tzi Ma co-star in the flick, directed by Denis Villeneuve, and will also be attending the film's screening at 9:30 p.m.
Hopefully Amy and Jeremy are on time because the final stop of the night is at 8:30 p.m. at the Princess of Wales Theatre for the sports biopic Bleed for This. Director Ben Younger, and stars Miles Teller and Aaron Eckhart will tour the red carpet to premiere their film, which screens at 9:30 p.m., and follows the real-life story behind boxer Vinny Pazienza (played by Miles) who returned to championship glory after a heartbreaking injury.
There's even more where that came from, so do NOT forget to check back tomorrow to see what's next for TIFF! ~Shelby Morton
