At Five in the Afternoon

In Afghanistan after the fall of the Taliban, young Noqreh leaves her home each day to go to the public school without telling her father, a Taliban supporter who things women should not go out in society, because she knows he wouldn’t approve.

When the teacher asks the all-girl class which of them would like to be the president of Afghanistan, Noqreh is among the three students who raise their hands. This gets her thinking about what it would be mean to be president. She meets a poet who is attracted to her, and he encourages her dreams.
