Uxbal (Javier Bardem) is a desperate, lonely man, looking for a father he never knew. Facing his own death, he worries about leaving a legacy for his family. He wants to leave something positive for his kids, something that gives them hope and something they can carry in their future lives. This is the anguishing and dizzying race against time that Uxbal faces. What does a man do in his final days of life? Does he dedicate himself to living or to dying?
This is a grim movie. However,Javier Bardem excels as the street hustler who faces enormous personal challenges.Like Job,he bears his tribulations with grace.First and foremost,he is a caring family man and the scenes he shares with his kids renders the film a triumphant experience.Bardem was nominated (rightly so) for an oscar.
Central storyline decent, poorly fleshed out side stories.
This was a deep film about one man's journey. I loved it.
