Everything is Illuminated Movie Synopsis

A young American Jewish man goes on a quest to find the woman who saved his grandfather--in a small Ukrainian town that was wiped off the map by the Nazi invasion. The journey begins as a comic nightmare, with an eccentric trio of paid “expert” guides sorely lacking in expertise; a cranky grandfather who insists on bringing his unruly seeing-eye dog to help him drive; and his over-enthusiastic grandson, whose fractured command of English, passion for retro American pop culture, and inability to shut up threaten to make the worst of every situation. But what starts out as the tour from hell turns into a surprisingly meaningful journey--with an unexpected and powerful series of revelations that will indelibly change all of their lives.

Just an amazing movie. I am from Ukranine and it made me laugh so much to hear Alex talking to his grandpa and sammy davis jr jr was just hilarious. It was very well done, and I loved every moment of it. After watching the movie I immedietly went to get the book and am currently reading it, it is also quite amazing.

I saw it in Boston at Kendal Square Theater. I am Russian myself. Movie is great. Very good acting, except for the woman who keeps posessions of killed Jews. I would like to have this movie on DVD. Tell me if it is available.

Thoroughly enjoyable! It`s heartwarming, funny, and beautifully filmed. Alijah Wood is terrific in this role. It`s slightly off centre but an overall makes-you-feel-good movie.
