Varpu (Linnea Skog) is a 12 year old girl whose dysfunctional home life with her lonely single mother (Paula Vesala) starts to weigh on her as she becomes increasingly aware of her peers, and the social pressure that comes with adolescence.

In a search for some semblance of stability, she goes on a long journey from Helsinki to Oulu in order to find her real father, a man whom her mother rarely speaks of. Along the way, Varpu discovers not only a parent, but a new found freedom in knowing who she truly wants to be.
