The Red Violin Movie Synopsis

The story follows the history of a violin, the "red violin" as it is known in musical circles, from its creation in Italy in the 1600s to the present day where it is on the auction block in Montreal. Through flash-forwards and flash-backs, we follow the violin’s complicated genealogy which takes us across three continents and through numerous historical events.

  one of my favourite movies

excellent movie, unusual & profound story, enjoyed it so much I went & bought it, a movie well worth keeping. Excellant performance by Samuel L. Johnson.
