Joseph (Peter Mullan), a man who lives a life filled with violence and rage, meets Hannah (Olivia Colman), a gentle Christian charity store worker. Although he scorns her faith at first, he's curious enough about her idyllic existence to return to the shop, where he soon finds out her life isn't as peaceful as he'd first believed. They develop a relationship, recognizing and understanding the pain each one is experiencing in their respective lives.
