Beauty and the Beast comes to life in dazzling first trailer

Transforming Disney’s beloved animated features into living, breathing, full-length productions seems to one of the hottest trend in movies right now — with a couple of Snow Whites in 2012, Cinderella in 2015, and even an upcoming Lion King set for sometime in 2018. So it’s only natural that the story of girl meets beast would follow suit. And to the delight of moviegoers across the land, that iconic love story has seen its first real glimmer of life in the captivating official trailer for Disney’s live-action Beauty and the Beast.

It’s a tale as old as time — boy turns into beast, beast imprisons girl, beast and girl fall in love — however, this is definitely the more modern version of the tale. While the narrative remains pretty faithful to the original, the special effects reveal great change. Dan Stevens as the menacing (and heavily CGI’d) Beast, alongside Stanley Tucci as Cadenza, Ewan McGregor as Lumière, Ian McKellen as Cogsworth and Emma Thompson as Mrs. Potts, proves just how far we’ve come from 1991 in terms of creating a visual spectacle.

Of course, add in an always-charming Emma Watson as the courageous beauty with a love for literature and Kevin Kline as her bumbling yet brilliant father, and you’ve got yourself a flick that roars into the 21st century.

Beauty and the Beast, directed by Bill Condon and featuring Josh Gad and Luke Evans as notorious foes LeFou and Gaston, hits the big screen on March 17, 2017. ~Shelby Morton

Emma Watson is so adorable and such a good actress. She should have played Jo in Little Women.
