David Cassidy ordered to do community service

David CassidyDavid Cassidy has been ordered to perform 50 hours of community service.

The former The Partridge Family star  was given the court-ordered sentence along with a fine of $900 after he pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge in September of driving while intoxicated on his way to Saratoga Race Course in upstate New York.

In court yesterday, the judge also sentenced the singer to a six-month license suspension, the installation of an ignition interlock device to stop him from attempting to start his car while drunk, and a waiver of his right to appeal the decision.

The news comes less than a year after it was revealed the 65-year-old musician – who has children, actress Katie, 28, and musician Beau, 24 – had entered alcohol rehabilitation.

In February the star also filed for bankruptcy, which he described as ”necessary” following his split from third wife, Sue Shifrin.

Papers filed in Florida at the time showed he held debts to companies such as Wells Fargo ($292,598) and American Express ($21,952).

In a statement he said: ”I am going through bankruptcy proceedings. This is necessary for practical reasons to reorganize my life as I go through divorce and to restructure my finances.”

Very sad. He was on top of the world in the 1970s. Look out Justin Bieber, here’s your future: a poor, divorced addict with illegitimate children.

Prefer not to judge to harshly – to go from such a high to quietly fadfjng to black – it wouldn’t be easy and I doubt Justin will do any better though not all of us will be arround to see that fall. This guy did good theatre and worked in a toss em over your shoulder industry that few of us have any understanding of …. I prefer to think the best !

Agree, he has done great theatre. He was fantastic in Blood Brothers. And great in Partridge Family also, to tell the truth. I saw it when I was a kid and it was hilarious.
