The cast of The Avengers will reunite this year at the Academy Awards. Producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron announced yesterday that Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man), Chris Evans (Captain America), Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye), Mark Ruffalo (The Hulk) and Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury) will be on stage to present an Oscar. The only missing heroes will be Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), who is currently on Broadway, and Chris Hemsworth (Thor). Many of The Avengers actors have had Oscar nominations in the past, but still awaiting the prestigious nod from the Academy are Evans, Hemsworth and Johansson, who has been nominated for four Golden Globes. The Oscars will take place on February 24, hosted by Seth MacFarlane.

No one has offered an explanation as to why Chris Hemsworth will not attend. Given the prestige of the event and so on, I would have thought he would enjoy being there and joining his castmates. I imagine few would turn down an invitation, including those far more veteran. I hope his absence doesn't reflect upon anything negative in terms of his movie or his team. He would have been a great addition.
