Brad Pitt stops speeders in Siberia

By Alexandra Heilbron on June 12, 2009 | 27 Comments

brad_pitt_cutoutBrad Pitt is helping the Siberian city of Omsk to stop speeders. Russian traffic police came up with the idea of placing cardboard cutouts of Pitt wearing a traffic policeman’s uniform at various intersections throughout the city in the hopes that his appearance would get drivers to slow down. So far, it appears to be working. Officials say accidents are down as star-struck drivers slow to get a good look at Brad. Head of traffic police Dmitry Zaryanov told Pravda Daily: “There are many dangerous spots in Omsk, but a shortage of policemen. We had to improvise.” Each cutout costs only $113 dollars to manufacture. Just one thing – they haven’t asked Pitt’s permission, but hopefully the mega-star will be pleased that his celebrity status is being put to good use.

    “they haven’t asked Pitt’s permission”

    Typical smart cops!

  2. Ronald • June 12, 2009 @ 9:32 AM

Well I’m surprised that they are not stolen and being sold on E Bay

  3. sparklingwall • June 12, 2009 @ 11:02 AM

LOL thats so awesome. I’m surprised they havent caused accidents. I know I’d get a little distracted 🙂 Makes me want to visit Omsk…..

I would laugh if Brad Pitt sued their butts off! Sad part is, it’s the taxpayers who’d be footing the bill because the cops weren’t smart enough to get permission!

Porhaps comrade Pitt can grace our gulags and bring sum of our most misarable convicts some joy with his most gracious presence.
We are very big fans of Fight Club!

Perhaps the face should of been that of Jane Fonda, with the body she has that would stop alot of people.lol I hope that Mr. Pitt see’s the humor in it and talk to them insted of jumping the gun and threatening to sue. We are all mature adults here are we not? I’m sure Mr. Pitt will get in touch with the not so bright Police officers and say look you should of called the right authoritues on this before you did what you did.

Why would Brad sue? What personal ‘damage’ or ‘injury’ would he sustain? Only in America would this be grounds for a frivolous lawsuit of using his likeness. It’s not like they are selling a product!

I LOVE it! Way to go! I don’t think Brad will mind. They are not making money off of it.

I think generally people have overdosed on Brad Pitt and its time to find another Pretty Boy.

  10. Nancy • June 12, 2009 @ 4:05 PM

Zac Efron is a Pretty Boy! 😀

  11. demigod • June 12, 2009 @ 4:19 PM

If that was a cutout of Zac Efron I’d drive over it!

  12. likeit1 • June 12, 2009 @ 6:47 PM

They should put a cut out of Palin since she can see Russia from her back porch.

Pic of her skinning a moose should do it. Grill Baby Grill

  13. Carol • June 12, 2009 @ 8:51 PM

Demigod, why would he sue? The rich just never think they are rich enough, and it is also about power. They used his pic without authorization. You can’t even put pics of people on Girl Guides websites without permission. This could be huge.

    likeit1, that’s too funny, and a great idea…LMAO

  14. Nancy • June 12, 2009 @ 9:23 PM

Definately Carol. They don’t sue for the money, they sue for the principle of it…to set an example. Man, the National Enquirer gets sued all the time for lying about celebs, LOL.

  15. Silvana • June 12, 2009 @ 10:59 PM

It’s just funny that Brad’s such a marketing machine…too bad his acting chops are dying off…soon I bet we can picture him mass producing a ketchup or new barbeque sauce…basically anything he touches turns to gold…or cash$$…keep it up goldie locks..

I’m sure Brad will feel very ‘powerful’ taking down placards used for public safety.
I seriously doubt he would get a penny if he tried suing. The most he’d get is an apology. Russia doesn’t recognize American laws.

  17. Carol • June 13, 2009 @ 7:13 AM

Demigod, perhaps you are right, I’m not well versed on all the ways of the world, but I would imagine there are some laws there that would protect. If he can sue, I’m sure he will, or if it’s for the betterment of the world (isn’t that what he & Angelina are about these days), maybe he’ll settle. Money = power.
Regardless, that pic of him is terrible, he looks foolish.

  18. sparklingwall • June 13, 2009 @ 12:08 PM

Silvana, I dont think he’d turn to lame commercials etc… He’s probably made enough money in his lifetime to retire back when he was 35.. Especially now that he’s married to Angie. Unless they plan on multiplying their family number again.

  19. Silvana • June 16, 2009 @ 9:08 AM

Mind you they all turn to those foreign commercials in Toyko when there not working…my brother-in law goes frequently to Asia and those stars are plastered everywhere…hey I guess everyone needs a retirement plan…you do get older unfortunately in Hollywood that means ” always another pretty face”….besides I find Brad is old now and time to move on…like another stud Ryan Reynolds..on top of that he’s Canadian~~~ even better!!

  20. tributegirl • June 16, 2009 @ 10:28 AM

From what I’ve read, all those billboards, etc, in Asia with the stars on them were not made with permission from the stars. Different country = different set of rules.

  21. lily • June 16, 2009 @ 5:07 PM

Brads face will always be pretty enough for me!!! btw I think he is a fantastic actor too.

  22. Silvana • June 16, 2009 @ 8:33 PM

That’s nice that you think Brad’s still a hottie…I just think he’s okay…not the best out there…in my book I prefer dark hair and mysterious looking to the blond beach babe…but again everyone has their preferences…as for acting I think he did his best work years ago when he did Robert Redford’s ” A River Runs Through It” classic film…beautifully acted…or even Legends of the Fall….he was brilliant….my latest favorite role was the cult classic ” Fight Club”…that was a perfect role for his look….but these days I think he’s taken some crappy roles…like Benjamin Bore…ohh button…anyhow you win some you loose some…I’m sure his loaded regardless…

  23. demigod • June 17, 2009 @ 3:34 AM

I thought Brad’s best performance by far was in Kalifornia. He played a murdering psychopathic southern redneck like no one else.

  24. lily • June 17, 2009 @ 5:45 AM

I’m still partial to Brad in Snatch but all your choices are good too. Oh, and his Friends episode was the best ever!

  25. Jo-Anne • June 17, 2009 @ 8:21 AM

personally don’t care for Brad at all, both in the looks department and his life, his interviews/comments, etc.

However, do agree with all three of you on his commendable performances in those movies, along with a few others…

I could barely sit through Benjamin Button, Silvana, it was a complete dud for me, including Pitt’s performance…it amazed me it was put up there in the Oscar race…

I own River Runs Through It…beautiful movie…one of those films you can actually watch again and enjoy as if you’ve seen it for the first time…

by the way, this cardboard cutout is not even worth looking at for the first time, never mind a second or third look…

  26. Nancy • June 17, 2009 @ 9:25 AM

Brad Pitt swears. He actually uses the “F” word quite frequently. Hmmm…do you think he’s a “bad parent”, Jo-Anne? Maybe he should lose his 6 kids to child services perhaps? LOL.

I actually also believe that pulls this Heavens usually do not supply an remover for any Kontiki computer software. Therefore i’m currently longing a new call back off their techies to express with my family how to take it off. Could keep an individual submitted.
