Christian Bale broke down after watching footage of his late friend and Batman co-star Heath Ledger at the 2012 MTV Movie Awards. The actor struggled to hold back tears when a montage of clips from the first two Batman installments showed the tragic actor in his role as The Joker at last night’s show. In the Batman trilogy, Bale has portrayed the caped crusader since the beginning and struck up a friendship with Ledger on the set of The Dark Knight. Bale was asked to present the movie montage alongside Gary Oldman and Joseph Gordon-Levitt when he was overwhelmed with emotion. “It’s great to see Heath Ledger up there,” said Bale after the clips premiered. The 38-year-old Dark Knight Rises star stepped away and bowed his head for a moment of silence. “Heath was infectious; his death makes me angry because I know our friendship would have blossomed had he not died,” said Bale.
