It’s official: Paula Abdul leaves American Idol

Paula Abdul has officially confirmed that she won’t be returning to American Idol this season. “With sadness in my heart, I’ve decided not to return to Idol,” she wrote on her Twitter page. “I’ll miss nurturing all the new talent, but most of all being a part of a show that I helped from day one become an international phenomenon. What I want to say most, is how much I appreciate the undying support and enormous love that you have showered upon me. I do, without any doubt, have the BEST fans in the entire world and I love you all.” American Idol auditions begin tomorrow in Denver for the ninth season, with the show returning to television in January. Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson and Kara DioGuardi will all return as judges. No reason was given for Paula’s departure.

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo. How could she leave, she was my favorite judge on that show. I knew that when they introduced kara, they were trying to weave paula out. She will be missed by everyone who watchs the show.

Although I don’t think she is great as a judge, I would much rather see Randy leave. I can listen (and tune out) Paula’s babble, but Randy’s “vocabulary” is grating. And you are right brainchild, it was obvious they were “easing” Kara into a role to replace Paula.

i really like paula, but she isnt a good judge. she basically always says the same things to everyone, she is always trying too hard to be nice about everything. randy always uses the same phrase over and over again and it makes me want to smack him, but i like him as well. i dont like kara. i think simon is the only ACTUAL judge on the show lol. i like paulas personality and i like her voice.
it just really wouldn’t be the same without her. this sucks!!
Kara’s pretty hot so’s Paula. She can bring her booze over to my place anytime ya know what I mean. I bet she gets good pain meds too after hurting her leg and back. Even better.

Paula was suffering from a rare disease (resulting from her NECK surgeries which had plates fused in) called R.S.D. (reflex sympathetic dystrophy). If you google it, you will see that it is a VERY painful disease as I know, because I also suffer from it, (my plates where but on my spine though, not my neck) and the pain from this disease is 24/7 NON STOP!! Just for her to be able to do what she did everyday is a wonder in itself and probably is the reason why she sounded “loopy” at times, (which is another reason I liked her as sometimes she made NO sense and I could not help but laugh, but understood why) as I would suspect that she would have to take something to be able to sit there that long plus also do her dancing etc.
I also heard the reason she left has to do with the fact that “So You Think You Can Dance” (also produced by Nigel from “American Idol”) offered her a spot on their panel as she was always a dancer FIRST and a singer second, so don’t be surprised if you see her in Season 7 (as Season 6 has already been chosen and will air in the fall.)
I will miss Paula as she was always managed to find something positive to say to the singers, especially if they were having a BAD night, whereas Kara just grates me the wrong way!! Paula also had a BIG heart and was kind to the singers, but Simon is the only one that always spoke his mind and most times, he was right (so Paula did not make the BEST judge, but was the kindest!)
When I heard the song that Kara wrote to be the first single, I was like Simon after I heard it and rolled my eyes as I felt SO bad for Kris (and Adam) to have to sing this song (thank God no radio station has played it) and HOPEFULLY next year they will go back to their contest where songs are submitted from the public and the best one is chosen for the winner because I thought her song was BAD (and most of the other ones each year have sold very well!!)

I’m not big on the series, but what I think would be a great idea is to get a show going with live bands, instead of just singers. Think it would be more entertaining showcasing original acts.
I agree demigod, as I find it better now that they are allowed to play instruments, so why not allow bands as well? I guess it is because it is called “American Idol” and not “Band”, perhaps they should think of doing a separate show for bands??
im not even sure it should be called american idol. with how amazing adam was and how he was on magazine covers etc and he still didnt win, it was pretty clear its not who we vote for that wins. it SHOULD be called “the person we felt sorry for because they were second rate so we gave them a record deal to try to lift their spirits”.
i read Paulas leavin cause she has issues about pay and there bringin in another hottie, Victoria Beckham for at least 2 shows.
Adam was on magazine covers as he had a HUGE personality, and I for one, did think his lower registry was very good, but when he went for those HIGH notes, God help us!! Talk about screaming, a lot of people felt the same way, and that is obviously one of the reasons Kris won!! I also think Kris was an excellent singer and more versatile, whereas with Adam you knew (and would just wait) for his “screaming” notes to come every song, too bad as I believe that is what COULD have cost him the win. Kris’s voice will sell a lot of records as his appeal is more for the masses and he was very endearing to the public, whereas Adam always had SHOCK value!! Adam will do well onstage (Broadway) or with a hard rock or heavy metal band. Kris got my votes all the time as he could definitely switch it up!!
i disagree. adam was amazing. yes he did yell too much, but they would help him fix that if they gave him a record deal. either way, he got a record deal and i see him going further in life than kris. i like kris as a person but i dont think he is good enough to be this years american idol. adam had way more fans than kris did, he had more people cheering for him, he was on magazines because he is talented. it was totally a fixed contest.
Like everyone says Simon is the best judge on the show, but he does have an acid tongue sometimes and you have to feel for the contestants.As for Kara she also grates on my nerves and should be shown the door.I’m sorry to hear Paula is leaving instead of Kara.
I agree Mary!! Don’t like Kara at all and Simon is very brash but honest to a fault. I’ll miss Paula as well.
As far as Adam had the most fans, if he had, he would have won!! Adam would never change his screaming as that his way of singing and he will not change that, that is why a hard rock band approached him for a potential hook up, because he can scream!! Windows breaking scream! I bet the bank he’ll be screaming in his first album as well, whereas Kris will use his beautiful diverse voice and I’ll buy that over screeching anyday!!
Just because you are on the cover of a magazine does not make you more talented, he made most covers because he was controversial (gay), whereas Kris was the quiet one and he didn’t win because it was fixed, he won because the majority of the public voted for him! Most people who are on the cover are NOT always there because they are great, most times, something bad that they have done, or bad gossip puts them there!!
American Idol is a competition where everyone gets voted off by the public, or wins by the public, so Kris won fair and square!!
adam wasnt on the cover of all those magazines because he was gay, if that were true he would have come out a long time ago. and, you are basically agreeing with me in some way because you are saying adam is great for rock and roll. he is, hes brilliant. so why would that make him lose the show? just because he screams and is better suited for rock and roll? its not called americans best pop artist or best r and b artist, its called american idol. i think that its a shame that allison was voted off and didnt make it to the series finale, allison and adam were the best. kris’ voice just wasnt that good. the only song i liked by him was heartless, but i still didnt like his voice at all. you watch, adam will sell more records and be the one that stays in the spotlight for years to come, kris will probably do what the rest did…make one album and then youll never hear from him again.
well, aprilshowers, this is one area where I’ll have to agree with mandee completely re Adam’s talent, however I am with you with regards to the annoying Kara…
I felt very strongly Adam was miles ahead of Kris in sheer singing talent. Even his “screaming” was fitting for his song choices and didn’t ever bother me, in fact I felt he was an amazing emotional performer with a huge range of talent, he was far from boring, I so looked forward to each of his performances.
Kris, on the other hand, was like a comfortable rerun of a predictable sitcom…you could pretty well count on him returning every week and delivering consistent okay tunes…
to me, Kris painted in subtle pastels…Adam was ablaze with neon all the way…
MAYBE THATS THE WAY IT IS TO YOU MANDEE BUT AMERICA VOTED AND THEY LIKE KRIS BETTER. JUST BECAUSE YOU LIKE ADAM BETTER AND HE DIDN’T WIN DOESN’T MEAN THAT IT WAS ALL RIGGED. april, Adam’s ‘screams’ are rock wails..it’s part of his style yes, and his range exceeds Kris’. Of course Kris won, he’s more mainstream and that’s America.

But calling it fixed because he didn’t win, is silly. Perhaps everyone thought FOR SURE he’d win, so less people thought he needed votes and that is why he lost?
It was explained in the papers, on CNN and other television stations that the AT&T advantage that Kris supposedly had, that Adam also had, it was just not brought up to the forefront right away. It cannot be rigged, their guidelines are TOO strict!!
Also remember that the 3rd place finisher was Danny Gokey and that shows you that 2 out of the top 3 were softer and less hard rock and roller than Adam was, so when Danny left, it is surmised that his voters jumped on the Kris bandwagon, hence Kris wins by votes, not by an AT&T problem that was already explained (even by Ryan Secreast) that At&t problem was at one of Kris’s gathering places and that Adam’s fans also had the same opportunity at his gatherings, (AT&T even commented on it themselves,) so you just have to get over it and give up this idea that because Adam did not win, that it was fixed. Adam sexual orientation was NOT KNOWN FOR SURE until AFTER American Idol in ONE of his magazine interviews, when he finally came “out” and then did so with a guy in public after he LOST American Idol, so Adam being GAY cannot be the reason either as during “Idol” it was only heresay!!
American Idol HAS TO BE FAIR, one night they actually came back the next night admitting a phone number for one of the contestants had been incorrect, therefore no one would be going home that week and that the voting would be done again and they gave out the CORRECT phone numbers and the right person went home. This should show you that they go to any extent to make sure that no one is getting an advantage etc. Just get over it, he’s a good singer and will do well, but he did not win!!

I also LOVE Daughtry and he reminds me (personality wise) of Kris Allen as he is so soft spoken and kind and then he opens his mouth and great tunes come out!! Gotta love the guy eh? Pretty humble and does not look like stardom has changed him very much from the guy singing at Idol, don’t you think? I’ve NEVER stopped liking him!! Classic example of stardom (when NOT finishing first) Jennifer Hudson, especially when Simon said she would never make it, BOY, did I love the way he had to eat his words when she won the GRAMMY and the ACADEMY AWARD in the same year (and more in that year, but those are the BIG ones that really count!!)

But I don’t think Adam lost because of his sexuality, actually I know a lot of people are still very against it, but it seems like more of society is accepting it all the time. But I heard that there was a “Kris party”, that didn’t actually involve him, just a large number of fans, and someone showed them all how to text a vote and it would count as 10 votes? Can’t remember where I heard that, does anyone else remember that?

Paula’s been offered a ton of jobs on different shows but my guess is this is a publicity stunt and she’ll be back with American Idol when they cough up a little more cash. And JMO, but I love Kara, she’s my favourite judge. She’s smart, she’s talented (can outsing most of the competitors) and she’s funny (the bikini thing had me laughing out loud).

You need to go to all the blogs and see where I have responded to someone ONLY to have Mandee chime in right after I post something and tell me what I MEAN (when I’m the one who wrote it, I think I would know what I meant and also the person before me as I’m nt an idiot) an perhaps you’ll see a pattern that MIGHT surprise you, as it is her that keeps harping on every post I’ve made over the last 2 days, NOT ME, so then I respond to her NONSENSE. Check out other blogs before you make an evaluation based on what she says as it’s not always the truth I’m afraid!!
And yes, we have been posting FINE you and I and I obviously prefer it that way who wouldn’t) as she is the only one keeps saying something negative about every post I make or simply makes no sense at all in her responses, especially when she tries to tell me what I MEANT, that’s funny as I think I only know what I am talking about as I wrote it, LOL!!

No, april, I don’t believe you are Nancy, also there were a few comments from that nancy, lower case ‘n’, and the name in black, that’s happened before, it’s not her, I don’t know who it is, but I think it’s just someone trying to stir things up.
And I’m sorry April, but when I go back, I see both you and mandee getting defensive, but you do appear to be the provoker. I’m not trying to insult you here, I’m just telling you how I see it, because maybe others see it the same way, and that would probably be good for you to be aware of. One thing I wonder about though, is you keep saying you aren’t going to reply to mandee anymore, then you do. I’ll bet if you stop, she’ll stop.

I don’t think so, demigod, because there are a couple August 16 comments you might want to check out, time wise. On the Twilight Saga article, Nancy commented at 4:13, and on the Channing Tatum article, Shauna commented at 4:13. So it has to be two separate people.

weekend was really good, despite the heatwave, I’m not complaining as we waited so long for the heat, eh?
I managed to ge+t tickets to soccer so my husband and sons went and I took my daughter to see Harry Potter as we hadn’t been to a movie for so long. She wasn’t too keen on it, but I liked it better than the last one actually.

hey all. i have to reschedule, i had the doctors office call me and tell me it was important i come in right away. have multiple gall stones, they have to take my gall bladder out so they are setting me up with a surgeon, and i have an oversized liver, which they said they usually only see in alcoholics (which i most definitely am not!) so they are going to set me up with a gasterologist (spelling?) and i go in the daycare tomorrow for a half day. ill keep yas updated!

I’ve had gallstones and of course I was told at first “SURGERY” but luckily if you change your diet they can dissolve and mine did and went away, but PERHAPS you have too many if you have to have your gall bladder removed!! Can I ask you a question? How many surgeons have you consulted about this, as you should never have surgery based on one doctors opinion, PLEASE LISTEN TO ME ABOUT THIS, I KNOW ABOUT THESE THINGS, and I would not want you to have unnecessary surgery because of one doctors opinion!!! I strongly urge you to get a FEW opinions and then if 3 out of 4 agree, go with the best surgeon to have it done!! PLEASE, I BEG YOU to at least think about this decision VERY LONG AND HARD, especially when you tell me that your liver is oversized and you don’t drink, it could be SO many other things, OKAY KIDDO???
wow, to be so young and have those health issues..
i know you guys! its freaky. april, i have to have it removed because its causing me a LOT of pain. ive had this problem for about a year or so, it causes me massive chest and back pains off and on (usually once a week) where im so weak i can barely move, cant breathe because of the pain, and it also makes me throw up. my mom has an over sized liver as well, and my dad and sister both had to have their gallbladder taken out. so im assuming its hereditary because the doctor asked me if anyone has either one, and i knew about my dad and sisters gallbladder, but not about my moms liver. i havent yet talked to a surgeon april, she hasnt contacted one yet. when they do they will call me so i can go meet them etc. i start the daycare today for a half day to go over some plans and stuff, you all have a great day.
so sorry to hear of all this mandee, I knew you had some other health issues as well, and am hoping you go through all this and come out of it feeling so much better, you are too young to be suffering this!

thanks. i had a great day today. i officially start aug 31 but today i met 2 of the kids we will have (i already met her 2 kids) and it was great, her hubby was home, hes off for today bc his babys birthday is coming up. they are such nice people! i really like it there. also, i just got the call today, i have an appointment with the surgeon on sept 3 at 1130am to discuss what hes doing. apparently, the doctor put me through as a rush patient and i said to the lady that gave me the papers how did i get in so early? to see a specialist it takes forever usually she said yeah well she put a rush on it and said that its very urgent they take care of this problem ASAP. so, im kind of getting worried now!
ps, the one baby i had to ROCK for half an hour in my arms to get him to have his nap! my arms are tired and shakey lol, its been about 10 years since i held a baby !

I’m sorry about the pain as I know how painful they are, so it will be good when you finally have them removed, but make sure it is by a GREAT surgeon and that at least 2 out of 3 surgeons agree on the plan of action, PLEASE??!!
don’t worry too much, mandee, the “words” these medical people use can certainly drive us to heightened anxiety for sure….agree with april, get opinions and more opinions if you are unsure, (regardless if their dr. feelings are hurt) You owe it to yourself, just because they’re “specialists” doesn’t always mean they are without question.
I have moved my own surgery to Sept 2nd with a different doc after 2 opinions, and totally disregard the “cool reception from dr. number one, least on my list of importance – your health, first.
go with what you feel is comfortable and gather as much info as you can to make that choice.

thanks you 2, i figured id see how this consultation goes and decide from there. im also going to get my sis to look up the doctor (there is a page she says she has that tells you reviews on the doctor and if theyve done anything bad like kill someone during routine surgery lol). im not sure yet if they are just taking out the stones or the whole gallbladder, i wont know until i talk to the surgeon. i will keep everyone up to date. i am pretty unimpressed that i already have to miss a day of work (my first full week!) but, i will miss at least one more if they do surgery. (hoping for a friday so i can have the weekend to recover and see how im doing.) and yeah its really looking up for me jo, im really happy about the job and i love the family that lives in that house, they want to take me to buffalo to christmas shop “as a family” with them and their kids. i am loving them already lol.

I also (I know hard to believe, but not bad enough apparently after testing to warrant surgery) have carpel tunnel in my right hand and wear a brace on it when it gets really bad!! I hope the surgery goes well and that you will be pain free afterwards!! When are you having it done? (Sorry to hear it kiddo, but in the long run, you will probably feel better I hope!)

mandee, where did you see your name in there? Your insecurity with this is getting too much for me, it appears the constant reassurance that I DON’T have an issue with you is falling on deaf ears, so I’ll leave it at that…
jo, i wasnt talking about YOU ! i said i think that shauna was calling ME lame, not you. right underneath mine, i skimmed through what was said and mistook her “lame?” for “lame.” sorry if you misunderstood what i said. she was calling me an “idjit” actually. i thought that you took her comments to be directed at you. anyway. yeah i agree april. shauna has to be someone else around here, so those 2 should fit.
oh, also that whole comment was for shauna (the one you commented about), but i used your name in the beginning to tell you i thought she was talking about me. man im not good with explaining things right now.
