Robert Rodriguez and producer Alexander Rodnyansky are coming back for more grindhouse action in Machete Kills, a sequel to the 2010 film Machete, according to Deadline, even though the original film only grossed $44 million worldwide. The sequel’s plot finds Machete (played in the original film by Danny Trejo) recruited by the American government to fight his way into Mexico to take down a sinister cartel leader who plans to spread war using a weapon in space. While Trejo has not yet signed on for the sequel, Rodriguez expects most of the original cast to return. The Machete series originally began as a trailer that was placed in between Grindhouse, the double feature directed by Quentin Tarantino and Rodriguez. Machete Kills is expected to begin production in April with a script written by newcomer Kyle Ward. ~Rodrigo Cokting
