LAURIE HOLDEN
Date of Birth: December 17, 1972
Although born in Los Angeles, Holden spent much of her childhood in Toronto
following the divorce of her parents (both actors) when she was five. With a
parent in each city, she did a lot of moving back and forth. Her first
acting opportunity arose while visiting her stepfather, director Michael
Anderson, on the set of the television mini-series, The Martian Chronicles.
When the child actress hired to play the role didn't show up, Holden filled
in.
The natural beauty won a modeling contest in Toronto in her teen years, and
after graduating high school, she ventured off to McGill University to study
economics and political science. After her first year, however, she left
Canada to study theatre arts in UCLA. While completing her studies, she won
the prestigious Natalie Wood Acting award.
Holden got started in television after graduating. She first appeared on
series such as Highlander, Murder She Wrote, and Due South
for which she was nominated for a Gemini Award (the Canadian equivalent to an
Emmy) as best guest star in 1996.
She then landed more permanent gigs in series like Scales of Justice,
Family Passions and Destiny Ridge, not to mention roles in
numerous telefilms like Young Catherine, Tek War: TekLab, The
Pathfinder and The Alibi.
Unfortunately, despite the exposure, Holden remained in the shadows of
stardom. Her guest role as Marita Covarrubias on the hit series The
X-Files, on the other hand, was just the kind of publicity her career
needed. In 1998, she landed the starring role of Mary Travis on the series
The Magnificent Seven. Three years later she received her first
starring role in a feature film, The Majestic (2001) opposite Jim Carrey.
Holden presently lives in a one bedroom apartment in Los Angeles.
