Weinstein Co. continued their run of deals at this years TIFF with the acquisition of The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby: Him and Her. A drama film in two parts written and directed by Ned Benson, it stars James McAvoy and Jessica Chastain as Connor Ludlow and Eleanor Rigby, a couple who undergo a pivotal test in their relationship. The film is broken up into parts 'Him' and 'Her,' and centers on their relationship from their individual points of view. It boasts a supporting cast of William Hurt, Ciaran Hinds, Jess Wexler, Bill Hader, and Viola Davis. Benson began working on the story seven years ago, a few years after he was approached by Jessica Chastain at a film festival. After seeing one of his short films, Chastain gave him her film reel, having only just begun her career as an actress. They have since collaborated on Rigby, which Chastain and Benson co-produced alongside Cassandra Kulukundis, Todd Labarowski and Emanuel Michael. The rights will cover several international territories, and follows the $2 million shelled out for The Railway Man starring Colin Firth and Nicole Kidman and the $7 million deal for musical drama Can a Song Save Your Life? starring Kiera Knightley and Mark Ruffalo. Add to that the releases Mandela: A Long Walk to Freedom and August: Osage County, and Harvey Weinstein and his company have had a busy TIFF. ~Raj-Kabir Birk

While I have had the pleasure of seeing TIFF become a huge international event since its beginning as " the Festival of Festivals" the crowds, the celebrity access, the traffic congestion of Toronto has added just one more jewel in its crown of "how to make life more cumbersome for the Toronto working class"... Not everyone gets TIFF days off work. My quintessential negative experience was in the middle of the day a few years back the North side of Bloor Street at Holt Renfrew was not only cordoned off but tented as well for the privacy of the VERY HUGE (sarcasm) Paris Hilton.
The freebies the celebs get is absurd but you gotta hand it to Jeanne Beker who show up every year in the same outdated hair style and a bit more Botox!!!! Get real Jeanne
