Chiliheads

A journey as playful as it is evocative, Chiliheads takes us along the Hot Pepper road to Canada, the US, Mexico, Trinidad and Tobago and India to meet ‘chiliheads’—lovers and growers of hot peppers. The film unfolds as a colourful cinematographic investigation of the culture that surrounds this unique spicy fruit: scientific, historical and sociological. Director Julien Fréchette recounts the story of man and pepper from their first encounter up to the present day, when small producers discretely wage a Scoville war to push the limits and win the title of Hottest Pepper in the World. Engaging farmers, producers, chefs, scientists, historians and even psychoanalysts, the film deconstructs the incredible history of hot peppers and humans.
