Beth Boland (Christina Hendricks), her younger sister Annie Marks (Mae Whitman) and their good friend Ruby Hill (Retta) are all suburban moms who find themself in desperate circumstances.
Beth discovers her husband is cheating on her with a co-worker (Sara Paxton) and has squandered all their money, Annie's ex-husband threatens to take their daughter Sadie (Izzy Stannard) away in a custody battle if she can't provide better conditions for her and Ruby's daughter faces a life-threatening diagnosis if she doesn't get medical help soon — which is costly.
Annie suggests they rob the grocery store where she works for minimum wage, telling them there is always $30,000 in the safe. Finally, they take her up on the offer, but when they get home, they discover they've taken $500,000 — which is more than they'd bargained for. Now major thieves, they're confronted by bad guys who claim the money is theirs. The catch is, they've already spent some of the money to pay off their debts. Now over their heads, what can they do but go along with the bad guys when they ask for their help?
