IDEE Presents: Connext

This event will feature the screening of a brand new documentary style film by local organization, IDEE. IDEE stands for Innovate, Diversify, Educate, Empower and strives to bring local communities together while amplifying underrepresented voices.

The film centers around a four-day series of workshops led by local BIPOC artists, businesses, and community leaders that was held back in October of 2022. Connext follows a group of youth whom each identify as part of an underrepresented group in our city, and their experience throughout these workshops. They engaged in a Powwow and Hip Hop dance class with Nimihitotan, made Filipino sorbetes with DRTY Ice Cream, carved and stamped their own linocut prints with Kevin Liang at SNAP studio, and experienced a blanket exercise led by the Edmonton Native Healing Center. Each of these workshops exposed the youth to different paths and opportunities, and to how investing in creative pursuits and passions can shape these future change-makers. Connext explores connection with personal identity, community and culture, and how sharing knowledge through art can inspire and motivate one’s ‘next steps’ in life.

After the screening of the film IDEE invites you to join them in the lobby to check out a visual display of the youth’s art, and engage with the stars of the film as well as every business/creative that helped make this possible. Each leader will have a display table where you will be able to chat and learn more about them and how to support their business, as well as purchase any merchandise they may be selling (keep a special eye out for some delicious ice cream courtesy of DRTY)! They encourage you to take this time to ask questions, network with local creatives and get to know your community just a little bit better.
