Freshly graduated from college with a promising future ahead, 22-year-old top student and athlete Christopher McCandless (Emile Hirsh) abandoned his possessions, gave his entire $24,000 savings account to charity and walked out of his privileged life and into the wild in search of adventure. What happened to him on the way transformed this young wanderer into an enduring symbol for countless people.

Was Christopher McCandless a heroic adventurer or a naïve idealist, a rebellious 1990s Thoreau or another lost American son, a fearless risk-taker or a tragic figure who wrestled with the precarious balance between man and nature?

Based on a true story and the bestselling book by Jon Krakauer.

  • 5 stars "Very sad movie about a boy who was fed up with this sick society, so he escaped from his dysfunctional family to roam with hippies, go down Colorado river and finally go to Alaska, where he found his final fate. I understand why he escaped but why couldn´t he just stay with the hippies? He could be happy there. He was too naive and had no survival skills of the native tribes who followed caribus on their migration, knew how to smoke meat etc. Maybe if he joined some native people who know how to live in the wilderness, his story wouldn´t be so tragic. Definitelly a movie which will force you to think."
