In February 2012, following the fall of Mubarak in Egypt, protesters in Sana’a, Yemen set up tents in front of the university gates vowing they would not return home until all demands were met and peace was restored. This area became the arena where thousands of the country's armed population put down their weapons and assembled to ensure the fall of their president Ali Abdullah Saleh.
Although people of all ages and genders stood together, on March 18th, 2011 the peace was broken when pro-government snipers opened fire, killing 53 of the peaceful protestors and injuring thousands. These tragic events brought together even more people to the square in hopes of liberating Yemen from the oppressive government.
