In 2008, the Winnipeg Film Group is celebrating Cinematheque's 25th anniversary. Twenty-five years ago, Winnipeg was devoid of cinema house that was available to present the works of Canadian filmmakers. The Winnipeg Film Group decided that more than any other single mechanism, having our own cinema could extend the reach of our organization to build and educate audiences for the work of local filmmakers while presenting the very best in world cinema that would otherwise not be available to local audiences.

In order to celebrate Cinematheque's unique connection to the filmmaking community in Manitoba, the Winnipeg Film Group developed a mini commission project -- SILVERSCOPE -- where twenty-five Manitoba filmmakers and video artists were selected by a jury of film and video programmers to create short works that were broadly representative of the cinema experience using ultra low budget approaches. The results are exceptional, diverse, challenging and inspiring.
