The Murmuring (Najeun moksori)

This moving South Korean documentary profiles the struggle of several elderly women to persuade the Japanese and Korean governments to issue them a formal, public apology for forcing them to become prostitutes for Japanese soldiers during WW II. None of these women willingly chose to become comfort women.

Most were in their teens when they were either kidnapped or tricked into entering government sanctioned whorehouses. The women of the film are between 60 and 80 years old and live together in a simple home in Seoul.

The story chronicles their year-long struggle and records the many traumatic stories of the pain these women endured both during and after the war.
