Synopsis

Wiener-Dog follows the wayward adventures of a dachshund who passes from oddball owner to oddball owner, whose radically dysfunctional lives are all impacted by the pooch.

First, Dina (Julie Delpy) and Danny (Tracy Letts), the parents of nine-year-old cancer patient Remi (Keaton Nigel Cooke), get him the dachshund pup, but only to teach him needlessly cruel lessons of life. Dina tells Remi that because dogs are not human, nature doesn't care about them.

Unfortunately, Remi is not allowed to keep the dog for long. The dachshund passes from a veterinary nurse (Greta Gerwig) to a disabled couple (Connor Long and Bridget Brown), then screenwriting professor Dave Schmerz (Danny DeVito), who believes walking the dog will provide him with the exercise his doctor orders but finds out otherwise, and finally, an unhappy, bitter old woman (Ellen Burstyn) who names the dog "Cancer."

  • 1 star "The dog was cute but half way through this movie tanked. My friend and I seriously considered walking out but stayed hoping it would get better. We should have walked out. The first 1/4 of the story involved the dog but after that she was just used as a prop, like a bowl of fruit or flowers would be."
