My best toy ever was a hand-made doll that my mother made for me and my sister (twins), it had a porcelain head, lower arms and lower legs. Absolutely adorable, she also made lovely clothes for it, both sewing and knitting them for the doll.

Best toy I ever got was (dont laugh) a yellow hoolahoop. Kids in the neighborhood had them and I finally got one. So excited for something so simple and inexpensive. Mind you I was pretty young.
The first Christmas I can remember as a child, I had a fever or something. It was Christmas Eve and my parents decided to open gifts that night rather than Christmas day. I got the My Buddy doll and it never left my side for years. It also started our family’s tradition of opening gifts on Christmas Eve night which we still do today.

When my kids were little we got them a Nintendo. It’s when gaming systems were just starting to be the big thing. They were super happy as we didn’t have much money.
I always wanted a game called Mouse Trap. Never got it as a child but tried it with friends later on and we did enjoy it very much.
My most memorable gift was when I got Donkey Kong Country 2 for the Super Nintendo. It was the only gift my brother’s and I wanted and after opening everything and not getting it, my parents sent us on a scavenger hunt that took us all around the house, outside, in the garage and eventually back to the tree where it was sitting there waiting for us.

When I was a little kid, I begged my parents for a Talking Mother Goose. I wanted it so badly. On Christmas morning, I opened every present and it wasn’t there. I can remember being pretty disappointed. Then my mom told us that Santa had left a present for me under the kid’s tree in the basement. It was a tree decorated with homemade decorations that was just for us kids to decorate. I can remember running down and ripping the paper, I got my goose! I loved it for years and wore it out. To this day, its my favourite gift I have ever received.

I must of been about 7-8 years old, Sailor moon was a big deal at the time and I wanted a sailor moon doll, not only did I get sailor moon, my parents but me the whole sailor moon doll lineup and I didn’t know at the time cause I wouldnt of understood but money was tight but they did that for me! I was so happy. I still have the dolls to this day, I hope to one day pass them on to my daughter

It’s not really a toy. When I was probably 7 years old, I got this bubble bath. It was in a big peach shaped bottle and smelled just like peaches. I remember the smell of it so vividly to this day.

My stuffed rabbit Sally. My mom thought (foolishly) that three little girls would share one toy. I was immediately drawn to Sally and like a true brat I refused to share her. I locked myself in a closet with her and refused to come out unless my Mom said she was my toy. My horrible behavior should not have been rewarded, but Sally became my childhood treasure and I still have her 23 years later.

It is hard for me to pick a favorite toy. We always did well even though we had a family of 16, 9 girls and 7 boys. We always got new dolls, crayons and colouring books, bikes, painting sets, etc. I always love my new dolls.

The best toy for me, I’d say, was this lifesized girl doll. I was about 3 and it was taller than me and was my best friend. I moved from the Philippines to Canada when I was about 8 and it got lost during the move. I was devastated.

My favourite toy was a stuffed stuffed Scooter doll (Part of the Jim Henson line of stuffed animals produced in the 80s). That thing went with me everywhere for a solid year and was so gross and grimy but I refused to let my mom throw it out. Eventually he ‘disappeared’ and my mom still denies she was responsible for his demise. A few years ago, she bought me a vintage one on E-Bay and it has a place of honour on display in my office. Best. Gift. Ever.
