Avatar: Highest Grossing Movie

By Paul on January 26, 2010 | 13 Comments

jamescameronJames Cameron can now truly call himself the “king of the world,” with Avatar having just replaced Titanic as the highest grossing movie of all time. Raking in about $1.844 billion (U.S.) in tickets sales at the worldwide box office, Avatar has pushed Titanic, which earned about $1.843 billion, into second place, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
However, Cameron’s latest sci-fi spectacular has yet to surpass Titanic’s North American record and according to Reuters, the movie has earned additional revenue due to higher prices for 3-D screenings.
This puts The Dark Knight into third place for the highest grossing movies of all time.  —Clare Hill

A great achievement. Though I think Avatar is a tad overrated.

all time movie before taking into acount in flation… at the moment after inflation it is only 26 on the list

( and that is just the domestic list not the world wide sales)

meaning…. less people paid more money…. about half of the people that went to see titanic and a 1/3 of the people that went to Star Wars according to the figures

Amazing, he can now retire and buy an island or maybe 5 islands.

No way that Avatar passes Titanic if ticket prices were the same….it simply doesn’t have the ‘female’ appeal that Titanic did…and then there’s the Bonus 3-D revenue too!!

James Cameron is simply a film genius, as he has proven with Avatar and Titanic, the two highest grossing films ever.

Don’t bother hating on him and making up excuses for Avatar’s success. It’s no fluke that it’s the number one movie, people like it so they go and see it.

Yeah…. totally overrated, just like his other movies. They were good, but not THAT good.

Cameron can go hide and relax while he spends his billions (and this isn’t counting the dvd/bluray sales…. eesh).

Expect to see him in another 10-15 years with another movie.

How can you honestly be saying its overrated…..his achievement in that film surpasses anything any other director has ever attempted, open your eyes people, stop being so ignorant, you know for a fact you’ve never seen anything as amazing as what you saw in avatar. come on.

Avatar put film making on a whole new level, he revolutionized it. Thats why hes got his billions, the man deserves it, what he accomplished was insanely hard work.

He diden’t just create the film people….he created the technology to make that film. Thats a genius.
