Celebrities sign Declaration of Compassion

Brooke ShieldsBrooke Shields, Saturday Night Live’s Kristen Wiig, Moby and Bones star Emily Deschanel are among the celebrities who’ll be signing The Declaration of Compassion on June 28, 2008 at Catskill Animal Sanctuary’s 7th Annual Shindig. The Declaration declares its signers’ independence from “agribusiness.” Tied into the green movement, its purpose is to generate awareness of the consequences of agribusiness and inspiration for those considering transitioning to a vegetarian diet. Kathy Stevens, Founder and Director of Catskill Animal Sanctuary, explains, “Global warming is challenging all of us to radically and immediately alter our behavior. Since agribusiness is the #1 culprit in everything from the melting of the Polar ice caps to the extinction of animal and plant species to water shortages, we must all alter our diets if we want this beautiful planet to be here for our children and grandchildren.” An online version enables supporters to sign remotely. In its first hour online, the Declaration was signed by people from 14 states and 8 countries. CAS hopes to have 100,000 signatures by July 4th.

Who’s the man in that photo?

I would just like to point out the stupidity of all this vegetarian nonsense. I am ecologist and being vegetarian does not necessarily start meaning you are greener. People who dont eat meat, eat soy. People farm SOY! in fact more of the rainforest is being cut down to grow Soy. so in conclusion, just read up before you start being a sheep and following some green union. Eat what you need, dont overeat, choose meats that are lower on the food chain (beef= that are grass fed) as opposed to salmon which eat fish) and then you are greener.

I read that if everyone became a vegan, there would be enough food to feed 10 billion people. Instead of only the people in the west having food and people in Africa and other places starving. I’m not a vegan, but it makes sense. Plus, vegetarians live longer and have less illnesses.

Actually, you can. Have you seen Supersize Me? Everyone who loves Mcdonalds should watch it and see what health problems you’ll be in and out of the hospital with in upcoming years (maybe not out the front door, either). Eye opening.

I have seen Supersize me and did you see that one guy who has a big mac every day and looks like skin and bones? Watch it again….and I don’t eat there every day…on ocasion….

veggies are still farmed you know.
Aka. we are already overpopulated as it is. vegans are not healthier and lack proteins needed to metabolize and there is no scientific evidence that they live longer. yes Illnesses happen for a lot of reasons, one of them being because we eat pesticide ridden crap. so if all went organic it`d go better.

hey you know that saying? You are what you eat? Well ever seen that movie Alive?

  10. tammy • June 16, 2008 @ 4:41 PM

We are still part of the food chain people…

Hot topic. I for one, will not stop eating meat, I don’t particularly like red meat, but I love poultry. I don’t think I’m hurting my health or the planet by cooking up a turkey once in a while. Anyone who wants to be a vegan can go right ahead, if it’s what they want to do, doesn’t bother me in the least, but I will continue eating meat.

  12. Nancy • June 16, 2008 @ 7:51 PM

My family are meat eaters too and I know that I always will be. I lose enough damn hair as it is…without taking out my red-meat proteins, thanks!! As for you, Alex, I would like you to give us some proof that vegans are healthier and live longer lives, and as for the movie Supersize Me…the friggin’ guy was eating Mc. D’s constantly! And not just MEAT…he was eating fries and drinking pop, too….now that crap will kill ya! The acid in pop eats your insides and the grease the fries marinate in will clog your arteries. About the healthiest part of that movie WAS the MEAT!! And he didn’t quit eating when he was full…he kept going until he was ready to explode! For anyone who is overweight, cutting out meat is the worst thing you can do…cutting your carbs is much more effective. Imagine how overpopulated the world would be with animals if everyone was vegan….??????

And by the way, Brooke Shields looks like a damn clown!! Guess they have to cake all that make-up on her to cover the wrinkles!! LMAO

  14. Nancy • June 16, 2008 @ 7:54 PM

Wonder if she knows what her make-up is made from!! LOL

The world is overpopulated with humans, not animals. That’s where the problem is. We have too many people to feed and the population count is growing every day.

  16. Nancy • June 18, 2008 @ 6:30 PM

I know it is not over-populated with animals….but it would be if people did not eat meat!

“We have too many people to feed and the population count is growing every day.”….It is called the food chain! Maybe we could solve both the starving countries and the over-populating problems if we sent birth control and condoms to third world countries instead of grains, etc. Their land of drought is never going to change, so their people will be starving until the end of time. If I cannot afford to feed my children then I should have protected sex as to not make anymore, wouldn’t you say?

  17. tributegirl • June 19, 2008 @ 8:25 AM

Actually, that’s an excellent idea, sending over birth control. Seriously. Just think how badly populated we would be if there was no form of birth control in North America. We’d be in almost the same position as them, except our land is much better, so we’d still be better able to provide for our people, but we’d be in a much worse position than we are in now.
