Ariel Winter to remain in sister’s custody

On Tuesday, Superior Court Judge Michael Levanas ruled that Modern Family star Ariel Winter is to remain under the temporary guardianship of her 34-year-old sister Shanelle Gray. Judge Levanas’ decision comes after Winter’s mother Chrisoula Workman was taken to court early this month, on Ariel’s own allegations that her mother had physically and emotionally abused her. But this all didn’t go down without an epic in-court tug of war. Ariel’s father, who is separated from Workman, says he wants “to provide for her a calm loving home environment that is a retreat from the glitz and glamor of Hollywood,” and added that “this whole situation has turned into a circus.” Meanwhile, Ariel’s mother maintains the actress’ sister is not a suitable candidate for guardianship, saying Shanelle is “too young,” and “has her own family to deal with.” Workman’s allegation that Shanelle is unfit has created speculations that Shanelle and her husband are being generous for personal gain. But Michael Kretzmer—Shanelle’s attorney—stated in court that “Shanelle is successful and has done very well in her own rights,” adding that “this is a tragedy for Shanelle too.”~Brandon Bastaldo
