Gangster Squad moving to 2013 due to massacre

It looks like we won’t be seeing Gangster Squad in theaters on September 7 as planned. The 1940’s crime drama that stars Ryan Gosling, Sean Penn, and Emma Stone was set for release this fall but ran into a problem in the wake of The Dark Knight Rises Colorado massacre. The trailer featured four armed men stepping through a movie theater screen and firing at a panicking audience – a scene that eerily mirrors the deadly event that took place July 20. Trailers were immediately pulled after the incident. Warner Bros. acknowledged the scene would be inappropriate following the attack, so they’re planning to reshoot the scene. They’re hoping to release the movie January 11, 2013, but before they confirm the date, they first need to work out how long it will take to get the cast together again for a reshoot. ~Stacy Raivich

Vietnam has banned the upcoming Barbie movie starring Margot Robbie as Barbie and Ryan Gosling as Ken because of a cartoon map depicting the nine-dash line.
Soo.. I get that they should move the movie’s release date back to show respect for what happened at the dark knight rises shooting… but reshooting the entire scene? Really?! Seems kind of ridiculous. If the scene was in the movie, it must be significant to the plot or it wouldnt be in there in the first place. So wouldnt reshooting mean reshooting a whole bunch of other scenes too? crazy.
I agree with Warner Bros that the movie should be moved back. But moving it all the way til 2013?! Guess I’ll just have to wait even longer now to see it

Good on Warner Bros. for trying to be respectful, but I think 2013 is a bit much. I guess with a cast like Penn, Gosling and Stone though, people are gonna go see it whether they have to wait til September or January, I know I will!
I thought they were going to re-edit the trailer? I guess they haven’t gotten around to that yet.
Altering the film is a mistake. It’s classy of the studio to be respectful of the tragedy by pushing the film back, but allowing this scumbag to get under our skin to this degree is letting the people like him win. Let the work stand as is.
I think they should leave the scene in. It’s horrific and frightening and makes a point.

Good on Warner Bros. for respecting the victims of that shooting. But are we going to have to change sh*t everytime something happens in the world? People also need to understand that it’s just a movie…
They are naturally trying to respect the victims and some of the publics fears and also likely they themselves fear a copycat response to their film. Get over yourselves and your desires. If you lived in a war torn country you would not see any of this as entertaining. Because we live in our cushy society over here where such extreme violence is entertainment we become desensitized. It has been shown that some of these sick people get inspired by the limit pushing film makers and what they create. I don’t believe in living in fear and what could happen, but same time if Warner brothers wants to reshoot the scene…kudos to them.
I think they did the right thing. It’s not like they are changing the whole film. It’s too close… it it was a year later it would be different.
Of course they have to set the date back. It’s not about respect for the victims it’s about investment. You can’t sell a movie in theaters if you know the film is in bad taste or will receive bad press and think of how much money they would be throwing away if they didn’t do decent at the Box Office.
I am more annoyed they have rap music in the soundtrack. Isn’t this supposed to be the 1930s?
They’re doing the right thing, but it’s dissapointing, I’ve been looking forward to this!
What a shame, Gangster Squad had Oscar written all over it.
The push from Warner Bros may just hurt the Gangster Squad��s chances of receiving any kind of high praise come award season, which I’m sure Warner Bros hoped it would earn. Usually the cut off to release “Oscar-worthy” films happens at the end of the fall, which would knock any chance Gangster Squad had of receiving the high acclaim. I hope they’ll at least include the original ending on the Blu-Ray.

I dont think they should re-shoot the sceen… it says based on a true story… well if that happened then it needs to be in the movie, I understand what happened at the Dark Night movie was terrible and I have great sympathy for those people who died and their families, however this is a movie, it isnt even released yet, so its not like he got the idea from it! sometimes I think people have a hard time seeing whats real and whats a MOVIE!!!
I think this is VERY classy on WB part. A movie theatre shooting scene they are going to spend time and money and pay actors and such to create a whole new scene. Sure the movie might be based on actual events, but this shows great effort on their part to show respect to what happened at their movie screening and oddly having another movie with an actual scene of the incident in it!
‘Nobody Important’-you are right! Look at your gun laws USA. And for that matter with all his firepower and bullet proof vest and such how the heck did he get in the theatre!?!?!
@Cdub: he bought a ticket then left through exit, propping door open, changed etc then returned through exit door. It’s kind of surprising movie theatres don’t have alarms that tell them an exit door is left or has been opened. Kids can and dolet each other in same way and I would think it would be something they would have thought about.
Moving it back…ok….re-shooting is not necessary…it is a Gangster Movie….one who goes expects the blood-and-guts stuff.
