Robert Downey Jr. has had to opt out of DreamWorks’ sci-fi western Cowboys & Aliens in order to clear his schedule for a sequel to Guy Ritchie‘s enormously successful Sherlock Holmes. Both movies begin filming this summer, and since Downey Jr. is unable to do both, DreamWorks is currently looking for a replacement actor for the alien-themed western, which will be helmed by Iron Man 2 director Jon Favreau. Meanwhile, although a script has already been penned for the Holmes sequel, Warner Bros. is now racing to get the movie greenlit. It’s been rumored that they’re considering Brad Pitt to play the villain, and though a director has not yet been confirmed, they’re hoping to get Ritchie back on board for the sequel. ~Alexandra Heilbron

After years of blockbuster filmmaking, Guy Ritchie returns to his stylish roots in this gangster tale about drug deals gone wrong and what it takes to be on top.
just heading out to see Sherlock Holmes now….looking forward to it!
really like Downey/Law and am not surprised a sequel in the works due to current popularity of Holmes…
not too keen on that Cowboys Aliens film but sci-fi amongst my least interesting film choice category….
i like rd jr. sherlock movie doesnt sound good to me better then cowboys & aliens though
I am so glad they are already making a sequel, it was an excellent movie and I loved the Jude Law/Robert Downey Jr. combination!
they need to get someone who usually plays a good guy to play the villain, someone you would not expect, like Cristian Bale, or Viggo Mortensen. brad pitt may be easy on the eyes, but i find that he plays all his characters the same way lately.
I think he’s always played all his characters the same way. All kind of cool, cocky, cheaply comical…not the smartest….
