Susan Boyle taunted on train

By Alexandra Heilbron on August 26, 2010 | 29 Comments

Scottish singing star Susan Boyle was driven to tears while riding alone during a 30-minute train ride back to her home in Blackburn last Sunday afternoon. It began when a group of loudmouthed thugs began mocking her. Boyle tried to ignore them but she eventually began sobbing as their taunts grew worse. She finally told them: “I’m normally patient but I am about to greet, greet, greet. I don’t normally get angry with people.” The Britain’s Got Talent runner-up continued: “I’m ashamed of you all — shut up. I’m warning you, it’s not funny. You wouldn’t like it.” One eyewitness told The Scottish Sun they were disgusted at how Susan was targeted because of her sensitivity and her fame. They said: “Susan was minding her own business on the train. Some people were taking pictures. There were people laughing at her — it was not nice. People noticed she was sobbing — something was upsetting her. She then turned to the people sitting opposite her and told them off. Susan certainly put them in their place — and good for her. It can’t be easy dealing with the fame she has but she handled it well.”

That’s horrible. Why didn’t the “eyewitness” or the people taking photos of her step in and tell the creeps to buzz off?

  2. ugh • August 26, 2010 @ 10:18 AM

anyone else find it weird the term “singing star” is still being used in the present tense?

I love her, she’s such a sweetheart. She should take a friend next time or have someone drive her, with how famous she is, she shouldn’t be taking a public train because there’s always jealous idiots who want to put successful people down.

To ugh, considering she had a mega selling hit album out last year and that not many recording artist release more than one album in a 12 month period I’d say she is definitely still a present “singing star.” I would imagine that she would be releasing another one by the end of this year or early next. She is also scheduled to perform for the Pope!

I’m glad that I believe in kharma. What goes around comes around – you get back whatever you put out in the world. These thugs will eventually get what’s coming to them.

the world is becoming a sick place when you cant even ride a train without being tormented or taunted until the point of tears. imagine the emotional trauma this woman is suffering from people like this, i wonder how people that can treat others this way can live with themselves. dont they have a conscience? ffs.

  12. Paulo • August 26, 2010 @ 11:53 PM

Why didn’t anyone get up and defend her?

  13. KathyMu • August 27, 2010 @ 12:50 AM

I just bet those thugs felt like “real men” after bringing a 5 foot tall, 49 year old woman to tears.
They should pick on someone their own size and age next time.
Oh wait, they won’t do that because they’re cowards.
It sounds like some of there are here reading this article.

  14. KathyMu • August 27, 2010 @ 12:52 AM

@debbie, he’s probably one of the thugs.
Oh I hope he gets his someday.

  15. Kat • August 27, 2010 @ 1:52 AM

Bullies always are cowardly and have to hang in groups, they have no strength to stand and their own, they are followers and not leaders. It is obvious this particular group have very little in their lives to be proud of and therefore are acting out to try to make themselves feel big, but to most decent people they just come off as small minded bullies that will probably end up in a bad place for the rest of their lives. Susan good for you for standing up for yourself you are a star in every way.

To Trevor and “ugh”- it would appear that neither one of you is particularly successful in your own lives, so the only way you can feel important is to put other people down. What sad, little lives you must lead. As for Susan being a PRESENT singing star, her next album is due out in November of this year and people in England, already started pre-ordering
it in April of this year. Susan is also the most successful singer in the entire history of the music industry. She has out-sold more records, in more countries, than any other pop/rock/rap star in the world. And what have either one of YOU accomplished in YOUR tiny, meaningless lives ?!

It is a sad commentary about the state of our world.

We see it every day the hate, the utter contempt and inevitable violence. The world used to have a code, a set of ethics upon which one could rely, and trust in…

People today no longer fear the consequences of their manner, or their attitude or in some cases the brutal actions they take upon others.

We live in an era of rage, hatred and dare I say it immorality.

I would certainly not tell people how to act in this time we live in, but I will make a suggestion to those who would find wisdom in this:

The world has changed, no longer assume that others care, or will help in your time of need.

Do not allow yourself the luxury of believing that do unto others as you would have them do unto you is even known, or understood by the people of this modern world.

Be on guard, travel with friends.

Be on guard, and know they will do unto you, as they see fit because they know they can.

    Safe Journeys,

    Saddened Soul

Disgusting I thought bullying went away when people grew up.Guess some people never grow up.

As a well brought up Canadian living in a small town and isolated from the trash of the world — I want to state that Yes I agree with most of the positive comments — first you will always find trash like those guys everywhere == they will get their’s eventually = we all age and we all die some day … What we can do is keep out of their way ..
Always travel in public with someone else — never never alone — Susan has to come to the realization that she now has 5 million dollars and more on the way — and she is a well known name — she will never be able to go back to being just “Susan” for a very long time” if ever
So, she needs to stay out of harms way …

DoUntoOthers on August 27, 2010 8:59 AM i agree with your comment and it broke my heart. i think the world has turned into a disgusting, selfish place and im sorry to say i live in these times.

patricia, you think we should “keep out of their way” when people are ignorant and harassing us? it shouldnt be up to the victims to hide and try to live their life without being victimized. also, theres a lot of people these days that have no friends because (it turns out) people are jerks and selfish, so how would they be able to be “never never alone”? im not being rude, dont mistake my comment for something it isnt. im just curious what your thoughts are for these situations.

that comment goes for anyone that says people should stay in groups or with others, or hide away from society because they may be picked on. is it a sad world we live in? yes it is, but shouldnt we, at this point in our lives, be conditioned to expect and ignore this kind of behaviour? i know i wouldnt, i would have probably told them off and gotten beaten up or murdered, but thats beside the point. as children everyone is teased and picked on, when you reach adulthood you should expect that people are going to dislike you for any reason they can, if youre not gorgeous, blonde, skinny, white, etc etc. it doesnt make it right, not by any means, but the kind of world we live in has taught us that we have to suffer in order to be the people we become as we age. people should be taught in school how to deal with things like this, and how to avoid treating others this way. maybe if these misguided youths (or “thugs”) knew the long term effects something like this can cause they wouldnt treat others so terribly.

    just a thought!

    Marie LeBlanc
Susan is talented, i’ll give you that. But she is not the most successfull singer, and she hasn’t sold more records than any singer. Micael Jackson was far more successful. And the Beatles are one of the most successful music groups ever. Do your research before making an assumption like that.

  22. Trevor • August 27, 2010 @ 6:40 PM

All I am saying is that I got a good laugh thinking about these kids taunting Shrek…I bet you all thought that was a good movie too.

  23. mandee • August 27, 2010 @ 8:58 PM

trevor, people like you are the reason this world is going to hell.

  24. Kit • August 28, 2010 @ 9:32 AM

Hey Trevor..Have you always been such a scab on the ass of our society? Grow up already. No one cares about your idiotic opinions. You bore me.

  25. Linda B • August 28, 2010 @ 11:54 AM

Trevor — you and everyone like you make me sick. YOU are the scum of the earth… Get a life.

  26. KathyM • August 28, 2010 @ 10:17 PM

@Marie, did the Beatles and Michael Jackson’s first album do what hers did?
Also, take into consideration that years ago people bought albums but now they either steal their music or download singles.
All things considered, she’s VERY successful.

  27. KathyM • August 28, 2010 @ 10:18 PM

Trevor is obviously one who gets bullied all the time, and the only way he can strike back is anonymously on the internet.
    He’s to be pitied.

  28. Thibz • August 29, 2010 @ 6:20 AM

If I was there i would have knocked the F**KERS OUT!! And that’ll be the closest they ever get to seeing stars!!
